RTG Crane Height Increase

PROJECT TYPE
RTG Crane Height Increase
HEIGHT MODIFICATION
18 m → 21 m
ENGINEERING SCOPE
Structural Analysis & Design
STANDARD
BS 2573

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Challenges

The project involved a third-party engineering assessment for increasing the height of an RTG crane from 18 to 21 meters.

The scope included structural analysis of the RTG crane for fatigue, buckling and static strength, as well as crane stability verification.

The engineering work also included the design and preparation of drawings for additional leg sections, an exhaust pipe section and an additional tie beam in accordance with BS 2573.

CRANE MODIFICATION

RTG Crane Height Increase

> Original crane height — 18 m    >Modified crane height — 21 m    > Additional leg sections

STRUCTURAL VERIFICATION

Fatigue, Buckling & Static Strength

> Static strength analysis     > Buckling analysis     > Fatigue assessment

PROJECT OUTCOME

Engineering Assessment Result

The engineering assessment covered the RTG crane height increase from 18 to 21 meters, including fatigue, buckling and static strength analysis, crane stability verification, and the design of the additional structural components. Design and drawings were developed for the additional leg sections, exhaust pipe section and additional tie beam in accordance with BS 2573.
