PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Challenges

The objective of the project was to determine whether the existing Ship Loader could be modernized to increase its productivity while maintaining the required structural capacity.

 

The assessment covered the structure, safety devices and mechanisms, structural strength under increased operating loads, residual life of the structure, and wheel loads on the quay after reconstruction.

STRUCTURAL SURVEY

Survey of Structure, Safety Devices and Mechanisms

A survey of the Ship Loader structure, safety devices and mechanisms was performed as part of the assessment of the possibility to increase the machine productivity.

The survey provided the necessary information for the subsequent structural analysis and residual life assessment.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

Strength, Residual Life and Wheel Load Assessment

Structural analysis was performed to determine whether the existing Ship Loader structure had sufficient strength to operate with the increased loads associated with the planned productivity increase.

The assessment also included evaluation of the structure residual life and verification of the machine wheel loads on the quay after reconstruction.

PROJECT OUTCOME

Technical Feasibility of Productivity Increase

The assessment provided the engineering basis for evaluating the possibility of increasing the Ship Loader productivity. The work included survey of the structure, safety devices and mechanisms, verification of structural strength under increased loads, residual life assessment, and verification of wheel loads on the quay after reconstruction.
