Ship-to-Shore Crane Condition Assessment

LOCATION
Norway
CRANE TYPE
Ship-to-Shore Container Crane
YEAR
1976
ASSESSMENT
Condition & Residual Life Assessment

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Challenges

The goal of this project was to determine the possibility and conditions for further operation of a ship-to-shore container crane manufactured in 1976, based on the condition of the metal structure and actual operating conditions.

The assessment included inspection of the boom steel structure, structural analysis for different trolley positions, stress measurements at critical points of the boom structure, and residual life assessment.

CRANE ASSESSMENT

Inspection & Structural Evaluation

> Boom steel structure inspection
Using coercive force method.
> Structural analysis
For the crane boom for different trolley positions.
> Stress measurements
For critical points of the boom structure.
> Residual life assessment
Based on material degradation and actual loading conditions.

STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS

Crane Boom Verification

> Structural analysis of the crane boom for different trolley positions.

FIELD MEASUREMENTS

Stress Measurements

> Stress alteration measurements at critical points of the boom

> Critical structural area evaluated as part of the boom assessment

PROJECT OUTCOME

Engineering Assessment Result

The engineering assessment combined inspection of the boom steel structure, structural analysis for different trolley positions, stress measurements at critical points and residual life assessment. The evaluation was based on the condition of the crane structure, material properties and actual loading conditions to determine the possibility and conditions for its further operation
